ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position of Associate Advisor/Advisor in Adult Degree Program will report to the Director of the Adult Degree Program. This position will serve as an advisor and recruiter for returning adult students in central Wisconsin. The initial assignment for this position will involve working out of Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, WI.
This position includes the following responsibilities:
Serve as an advisor, counselor, advocate, and mentor for returning adult students in central Wisconsin as they transition into the academic environment and strive to balance education, employment, family, and/or other life responsibilities and challenges.
Participate in recruitment and promotional activities throughout central Wisconsin.
Advise up to 100 returning adult students by providing timely and accurate information about admission and registration procedures, general education requirements, supporting and major course requirements for available programs of study, and rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the institution.
Meet with prospective students one-on-one to provide information and guidance in making informed decisions regarding their educational and career goals, and facilitate the application and admission process as appropriate.
Visit specified two-year institutions to recruit and advise prospective and current returning adult students.
Develop and implement advising procedures that allow for successful advisor and student self-assessment, monitoring, reporting of strategic benchmarks, and initiation of intervention strategies associate with student retention and successful degree completion.
Participate in Adult Degree program planning, professional development activities, and collaborations with academic and administrative units to provide educational and support services promoting the retention and degree-completion of returning adult students.
Refer students to other campus and community resources as appropriate, including faculty mentors, career counselors, financial aid advisors and other student service representatives, other University offices or personnel, and resources external to campus.
Advise and instruct students on the use and application of the Student Information System (SIS), the Transfer Information System (TIS), and other developing website resources that support academic planning and progress.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Adult Degree Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree at time of application
2 years of experience in student services or higher education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with adult students
Experience with PeopleSoft, Talisma, or similar software
